Summary

My Awesome Counting Book, illustrated by Dawn Machell, is the perfect way to introduce young children to counting and numbers. Each page is filled with numbers, pictures and counting activities for children to complete.  The numbers are presented in the shape of the number, allowing children to explore each page with their eyes and hands. There is also a fun sentence and a "Can you find the ...?" on each page.  There are also brightly illustrated characters that all children can identify with.

Rating

★★★★★

I give this book five stars.  It is a board book, with fun number shaped pages.  The bright, colorful, friendly animal and transportation illustrations help support fun counting activities; teaching young children to count, and identify numbers.

Classroom Ideas

This is a book that can be utilized in all Center-Based learning activities.  In the Block Area they can learn to count blocks and identify the number of cylinders or units, etc.  During meal time, my children help with setting the tables.  So, when directed to place 5 "sporks" and 4 cups on a table, they will be able to understand and follow directions.  During free choice activities,  I have often asked "How many children are allowed in this center?  Through counting, they are able to respond and acknowledge their awareness of the "number rule".
